Dappled sun shoned through the trees, creating mysterious shadows. Sunlight filtered through the clouds. Tiny specks of dust seemed to dance in the shaft of afternoon sunlight that slanted through the windows. "Dulcia! Come here for a minute!" Mum called, her voice booming across the living room. "What now?!" I answered irritably. "Here, take this list. Please go to the supermarket to get these things for me." And after handing me the list of groceries she needed, I was forced to go to the supermarket. "Damn! I was watching my favourite show, 'Tactics' !" I thought to myself, walking into the supermarket reluctantly.

As I scanned through the shelves for my groceries, I would tick them off the list. Soon, my basket was full of food and other stuff. As I walked towards the checkout counter, I was shocked to see that the counters were packed with shoppers, and serpentine queues forming in front of each counter. I searched for the shortest queue and starting queueing. Suddenly, someone pushed me from behind and all the things in my basket fell to the floor. I felt so angry that I turned round to give that disrespectful jerk a piece of my mind.

To my surprise, it was a handsome young guy who pushed me. "I am so sorry, please allow me to help out." The man apologised and began picking up my groceries. "W-what? Oh, thank you." I replied, blushing furiously. "Here you go, miss. I am terribly sorry." The handsome man apologised again and he walked off. Too stunned by his looks, I did not give a him a scolding. I checked my groceries and handbag for any items unpicked. However, to my horror, I realised that my wallet was missing!

I spotted that handsome man at the exit, and almost immediately, I went after him, leaving my groceries behind. "Stop there! You thief, return my wallet to me!" I screamed, chasing after him. He saw me and he took flight, making a quick exit onto the road. As I ran out of the supermarket, I saw the thief hopping onto a motorcycle, riding away.

"No.., my wallet..." I thought in misery. As I watched the thief riding away, tears of despair stained my face. "Haha.., what an idiot!" A group of boys not far away said, laughing. I was furious as I thought they were laughing at me. However, when I was about to scold them, I heard a cry of frustration. "What's wrong with this thing?!" The thief cried, angrier that ever when we realised he had got a flat tyre. Immediately, I phoned the police. Within a minute, the police arrived. Things happened very quickly. The police took the thief by surprise and, in no time, subdued him.

I thanked the police and took my wallet back. "Why were you guys laughing just now?" I asked the group of boys curiously. "Well, we were bored and decided to have some fun. We spotted a motorcycle nearby and decided to meddle with it." They replied, still giggling away. "What did you do?"Ii asked further, bursting with curiosity. "We poked a hole in his tyre, with something real sharp." They replied, "We have got to go, bye!" And with that, they left. "What a group of 'nice' boys!" I thought to myself, walking back to the supermarket to get my groceries. "Now, I have to get the groceries again. Where is my list?" I said to myself, looking deep into my bag. "Oh no! I've lost the list, help me! NO!!!--------" I cried out in despair... ... ... ...

"Joan, over here!"my mother shouted from the kitchen. Reluctantly, I stood up from my chair and went out of the study room. As I entered the kitchen, my mother started in this sweet, persuasive voice, "There you are, darling. I have a tiny little errand for you to run. Come on, just some groceries, you can do it."Without waiting for my reply, my mother shoved a handful of notes and a long shopping list into my pocket. Sighing, I closed the door and dragged my heavy feet towards the supermarket. It was just so typical of my mother to send me out on an errand when I was doing my weekend homework.
"Hey, Auntie! You have forgotten to take your vegetables!"I had been at the supermarket for 1 hour and was just queueing up at the checkout counter to pay for my groceries. The queue was very long and I had a hard time trying to fit the unpaid items into my hands. Suddenly, a hard push on my back sent all the groceries in my hands flying. As I felt my face smash into the ground, anger that I, normally a tolerant person, never had filled my mind. I stood up and turned around to see who that clumsy person was and to give him a piece of my mind. Noticing a tall teenager with flaming red hair running away,I immediately gave chase.Everyone seemed to be watching the scene in front of them with great interest.
" Hey you! The fiery red hair! Stop now!"The teenager, after running away from me for ten minutes, seemed to have got tired and his steps started to get smaller and slower. Turning around, he asked angrily, "Why do you keep following me?" " Isn't the reason obvious? You bumped into me and now, I DEMAND AN APOLOGY!"I yelled back." It was not me. It was my little brother. He knocked into you. Look, he is in front of me. Ask him if you do not believe me." Casting the little boy in front of the teenager a questioning look, I was answered with a tiny nod. Feeling my cheeks burn, I ran back to the supermarket. Now, everyone seemed to be trying hard not to let out loud bursts of laughter.
Picking up the groceries from the floor, I quickly went to a shorter queue to pay for them. Just as it was my turn to pay, I turned out my pockets but only to find them empty. Feeling the anger boil in me again, I threw the groceries down and ran after the red haired teenager who had no idea that I had spotted him in the crowd and knew what he had done.As I ran, I shouted out, " Help me, everyone! It's real this time ! He has stolen my money! Catch the pick-pocket!"

“Son, can you help me go to the supermarket to get the items on this list?” my mum yelled. “No problem mum,” I said as I took the shopping list from my mum’s hand. As I had nothing to do, I decided to help her get the things she needed.
It was about a five minutes walk from my apartment to the supermarket so within minutes, I was there, looking for the things on the list. After I got all the things I needed and was about to pay, someone pushed me from behind and everything in my hands fell onto the floor! I was furious with the inconsiderate person who pushed me. I turned around and was flabbergasted. The person was actually John, my kindergarten friend. He was usually kind and friendly but he was never so inconsiderate. No matter what, I still gave him a scolding. He apologized and helped me pick up my shopping and walked away. I queued up again and when I paid for my shopping an old lady tapped on my shoulder and pulled off a piece of sticky paper on my back and gave it to me. On the piece of paper, there was a “Kick Me” handwritten on it. So that was why John pushed me I thought.
I was burning with anger at that moment and I was angry with John for playing such a prank on me. I decided to play the same trick on him. I took out a pen and wrote “I’m dumb” on another piece of sticky paper. I walked towards John and pasted the piece of sticky paper on him while tapping his back and saying, “Hi John.” Fortunately, he did not notice anything suspicious and he walked on. We chatted for a moment and after that I said goodbye to him and walked home. I turned back and saw that the sticky paper was still there.
When I got home, my mum saw a piece of paper on my back. It read “So are you”. It was at that moment that I realized that John was just faking he did not notice the piece of paper. I did not hate John for doing it because I knew that he was mischievous by nature.

It was like any other typical afternoon. The weather was scorching hot and beads of perspiration trickled down my forehead. I was in my room, hogging onto the computer as my PSLE was just over.

"Game over! Restart again?" flashed my computer screen.

"Oh! Come on! Stupid game!" I chided, banging loud onto the table so violently that the table shook, like earthquake! Just then, my mother entered my room.

"Not again!" I thought, thinking that she was about to ask me to switch off the computer and do homework!

"Mum! PSLE is over! Can't I take a break eh?" I inquired.

But she didn't ask me to switch it off. She asked me to run an errand for her, which was equally bad. I just hated running errands.

"Alison, can you run down to the supermarket to the grocery-shopping for me please?" asked mun, with a broad grin on her face, "here's the list and you may buy some sweets or ice-cream if you want."

"Aw! What a hot day," I thought,"I don't think I will bulge even if I am offerred abalone or shark fin!"

I amde my way to the supermarket and grabbed a basket. It was more like a wet market to me. With wet floors and it smelt like toilet! Housewives were doing their grocery-shopping and it was packed! With people, like sardines in a can. I headed to the sections with difficulty and grabbed any stuffs in view-those needed by my mum.

"Frozen beef," I read from my list. It was at the bottom of the shopping list, right down! I yelped in delight as I could leave the hot, stuffy supermarket soon. Finally!

I was queing uo at the check-out counter when someone from behind gave a sudden, hard push. I fell onto the ground, with groceries strewn all over the floor. I was fuming with anger. Picking myself and the groceries up, I turned around, ready to give the culprit a sound scolding.

Ah! Shock robbed me of speech! It was unbelievable! The person who pushed me was an old, wizened man in his sixties. He was panting and gasping for breath. I thought it must be some Ah Bengs. Seeing the apologetic look on his face, my anger subsided. In a concern voice, I asked if he was hurt and also for the matter.

"Girl, did you see a young, burly man with hazel-coloured hair and pierced ears?" he inquired. I took me a moment to realise that he was robbed.

We instantly looked around and saw a lady chasing after a fleeing man, who was grabing a purse, a man's purse. I immediately sussed out that his purse was snatched.

"Thief! thief! Stop the thief!"I screeched, on the top of my voice. Curious shoppers glanced at me. Then, they realised what's going on. They sprinted as fast as cheetahs but failed to caught hold of him. He had run too fast.

"Crash! Bomb!" lots of noises. Throwing stuffs at view, he wished to block our way to get away scot-free but too bad. We managed to jump across it.

Just then, we stumbled upon two policemen, patroling the area. They were right in front of the culprit while we were behind him. There was no way out! The culprit surrendered to the police and returned the purse.

"Disgrace! What a disgrace!" shrieked a young woman. She was trowing carton boxes at him.

What a relistic scene! The culprit was the Singapore Idol runner-up, Sylvester Sim and the woman was the Singapore Idol contestant and his ex-girlfriend, Maia Lee! :D

Finally found that Drowning picture

Drowing!

The high sunlit clouds drifted across the clear blue sky. Waves crashed against the sandy shore before ebbing away.Coconut trees swayed to the gentle breeze of the warm tropical sunshine. I was at the beach with my brother.

"Help me!Help!" an ear-piercing scream filled the air. We turned around and saw a boy, about ten, struggling to stay afloat. His face was pale and was screaming incoherently.

"Quick! Grab the coconut that is floating by!"shouted a boy.

"Are you mad? the coconut is so small. He should grab a trunk of the coconut tree. Here boy! There is one, grab it..."shouted another boy.

The on-lookers were shouting at the top of their voices and giving loads of suggestions to the boy but no one dared to save him from the strong currents of the waves.

"A heap of cowards!"thought my brother,"So busy shouting that they don't even know what should they do..."

Just then, a burly man, who was as fit as a fiddle, dived into the sea and saved the boy, who was still struggling frantically to stay afloat. He grabbed the boy and dragged him to the shore, with the "help" of the waves, pushing them towards the shore.

He laid the boy in an inclined position and do Cadio Pulmonary Resuscitation, forcing sea water out of his lungs. He was accidently jerked and he came to, splitting out seawater. The boy experience a feeling of weakness and blacked-out.

"Brother! Brother! Wake up please! You musn't die..."shouted a boy, pushing his body hardly.

The crowd adviced him to calm down but he couldn't. Maybe, they were very close.

Soon, the wailings of the sirens could be heard. Taking that someone had the initiative to call the ambulance, we heaved a sign of relief. The paramedics carried the blacked-out boy on the stretcher and left for the hospital.

The loud wailings soon died down. Since we had no mood to enjoy at the beach, we left, with a broad grin on our faces.

Week 1 Compo:

One afternoon, I returned home from school. I saw two men standing in front of my neighbour's flat. One of them was struggling with the door. "Hmm.., they don't look friendly. They can't be Uncle Bruce's friends," I thought, burning with curiosity, "But who exactly are they?..." I walked away, as if nothing has happened.

Minutes later, when I was doing my homework, I heard noises coming from from my neighbour, Uncle Bruce's flat. Being a regular busybody, I crept towards the door to Uncle Bruce's flat. However, the door was unbolted! "Something's wrong." I thought worriedly... As my mother was a bit of a nosy parker, she knew almost everything in the neighborhood. Between our neighbor, Aunt Anna, and her, they always manage to ferret out all the current neighborhood gossip. Mum has an unerring nose for gossip, and her sharp inquisitive eyes miss nothing. That is how we knew that Uncle Bruce was away for a few days on a business trip...

"That's strange!" I mused. "Uncle Bruce's front door is open! Could he have come home early?" I thought to myself. Brusting with curiosity, I peered through the narrow opening of the door and got the shock of my life - those two men that I saw outside the door just now, were rifling through Uncle Bruce's chest of drawers. It's a burglary! Almost immediatlely, I took out my handphone and phoned the police.

I continued spying on them, watching them scurrying in and out fetching jewellery. I crept towards the bedroom once I got into the house. "Bang!" Oops! I had accidentally kicked the dustbin which was just beside me a moment ago. "Who's there?!" a thunderous voice boomed across the living room. I stifled a scream and held my breath in terror, praying that the burglars would not find me here. "Stomp! Stomp!" I hear footsteps! And it's coming from behind me! I turned around, only to see one of the burglars holding a baseball bat, ready to hit me. "Thud!" a dull thud was heard as I fell on the floor.

"Bang!" The door was broken down. "Hands up!" a man in blue shouted. I knew that the police had arrived. "Haha..." I laughed with an evil grin. as I saw them being handcuffed away, I slipped into darkness... ...

I came to after a few minutes. I had a large painful bump on my head, but was otherwise all right. "You have awaken?" A nurse, who was checking something attached to a clipboard. "After the police leave, you may be discharged." She said with concern, and left as soon as the police came in. "Mister, we would like to ask some questions regarding the burglary. Please co-operate with us..." and when they had finished asking, they left, while I was discharged immediately.

A few days later, Uncle Bruce came back. He even rewarded me with $100 for stopping the burglary! And guess what? I was given a medal for bravery by the police too! What a surprise! It's sure nice to help a neighbour in need.., you know what I mean?... ...

Week 2 Compo:

It was my first week working as a lifeguard. On that fateful day, I saved the first ever person in my whole life, and I'm proud of it. Let me tell you my story...

On that day, the beach was crowded with campers who had set up tents along the shore. Delicious smells of barbecued seafood wafted through the air. Some childern were playing beach volleyball and others were building sandcastles. The long stretch of sandy beach was lined with coconut and palm trees. Umbrellas dotted the beach, providing shelter from the midday sun. The nearby retaurants did brisk business. I was walking towards my post after my lunch break. Everything seemed to be in place when suddenly, I heard a terrifying scream... ...

"Help! Somebody, please save my son!" a woman in her forties screamed, with tears streaming from her eyes. Upon hearing this, I knew that I'm the only one who save the boy. After all, I'm a qualified lifeguard. I scanned the deep, blue sea for the boy, hoping to see some signs of struggle if I cannot see him. Suddenly, I spotted a boy struggling about a hundred metres from the shore.

"Hold on, I'm coming!" I yelled, plunging headfirst into the icy, cold water. I shivered as I swam towards the drowning child, the water was too cold! I swam with alll my might towards the boy, hoping to reach him before he was swallowed by the waves. Onlookers on the shore were now wearing worried and anxious looks on their faces. "Help!" the drowning boy shouted, trashing wildly in the water. "Save me!" he gasped between great gulps of salty water when he saw me. "Hang on!" I shouted. As the water closed over him, he blacked out. I swam towards him with powerful strokes, finally reaching him. I caught hold of the boy and managed to drag him to the surface of the water and swam back to shore.

Suddenly, I froze. I realised I had a cramp in my right leg. Now, I was the one struggling. I knew I had to get the both of us to shore somehow. There were still at least twelve metres from shore, and now I had a cramp in my right leg. What luck! I swam and swam, swallowing big mouths of the salty sea water at the same time. "Only a few more metres... to go... ..." I thought to myself, with life slowly draining from me...

After what seemed like an eternity, the both of us finally reached the shore. I started adminstering CPR to the boy, desperately hoping that the boy would wake up any moment now. A moment later, the boy had awaken. His mother gave an audible sigh of relief when she saw her son manage to sit up weakly. "Thank God you are safe!" she said, exhaling in relief. The boy's mother turned to me and begun thanking me profusely. "It's nothing..." Before I could finished my sentence, I blacked out.

When I came to, I realised I was in the hospital. "Oh, you are awake?" a doctor with a name tag bearing the name 'Dr. Justice' asked. Doctor Justice realised I was staring at his name tag. "Sorry, it's just that your name is weird." I apologised quickly. "Never mind. Just to let you konw, you fainted out of exhaustion. And the boy you saved had completely recovered from the ordeal." Doctor Justice said, "Since you have awaken, you may be discharged." And after visiting the boy and his mother, who thanked me profusely again, I left the hospital.

However, thinking back, I began to doubt whether I'm suitable to be a lifeguard. This kind of situation might happen again.., anytime in the future... What do you think?... ...

Week 3 Compo:

"You're here! Finally, too." a man in his forties exclaimed. "Ahh, Mr. Steven. Nice to meet you!" I replied in English, looking at my surroundings. Almost everyone is seated at their seats in the theatre, awaiting for the movie to start. What am I talking about, you asked. Well, I'm Tanaka Yamaguchi, an action star, and I'm at my first movie's premiere... Three hours later, the show had ended. Thunderous applause was heard right after the show. "Congrulations! Mr. Tanaka, it seems that your hard work has paid off!" Mr. Steven, the director, said through tears of joy. Memories of the past events begun unfolding before me...

The blue sky was dotted with fluffy white clouds that drifted lazily in the gentle breeze. The roads shimmered in the heat of the midday sun. The sunlit skyscrapers piecred the hot, blue sky. I was sitting beside the TV crew in the van, which was travelling along the expressway to the airport. "Tanaka, it's take 30 today, the part where you fight against the robber. Do you need me to go through the lines with you?" my personal assistant, Youko, asked. "Yes, and I need to rehearse my steps there too." I replied feverishly. Take 30 was the climax of the story, and the turning point of my career... ...

Soon, we reached the airport. I was told to stay in the vehicle while they set up the equipments needed. "Bang!" a loud knock was heard. I turned to look outside the window. I was astounded to see teenage girls holding boards with my name on it. "Tanaka, it's time to go." Youko said in excitement, opening the door of the van. Once outside, I was escorted by bodyguards to the scene.

A ripple of excitement ran through the crowd as I entered the airport. There were many fans of mine already here, waiting for me. Some of the most ardent fans were almost delirious with exciement. A whirl of excitement followed me wherever I went. "Ready? 3, 2, 1, ACTION!" Mr. Steven shouted. "Help! My handbag! Help!" a female supporting actress, all dressed up as an old woman, screamed, chasing a man in casual clothes wearing a pair of sunglasses. "Tanaka, you are up next, right after the next line." the director reminded me. "Somebody, please help me!" the 'old' lady cried out in despair. A surge of excitement ran through the spectators as I ran towards the 'robber'. "Wham! Bang! Crash!" I 'pretended' to have a struggle with the 'robber' in order to retrieve the handbag.

"Take this! Shame on you, fancy bullying an old defenceless woman!" I said as I delivered the finishing blow. The 'robber' fled, leaving the handbag behind. "Here you go." I said calmly, awaiting for the next act, according to the script. "Are you blind?! How dare you call me an old woman!" the actress screeched in a furious tone. And with that, she stormed off, leaving behind a puzzled-looking me. "Cut! Well done! It's only the first take, and it's perfect!" Mr. Steven said with a happy grin. My keyed-up fans cheered boisterourly as the act ended. Upon seeing this, I decided to repay them by agreeing to pose for photographs and giving them autographs.

About five minutes later, I was escorted back to the van... ..."Tanaka! Tanaka!" Mr. Steven shouted, shaking me. "What?!" I replied, having just came back to my senses."What's on your mind?" He asked, almost bursting with curiosity. "Nothing serious. Just some old memories." I repiled hastily............

The sun’s rays filtered into my window. I woke up feeling refreshed. As usual, I went down to my flat’s void deck to check my letterbox. I noticed a bright green envelope with a picture of a Boeing 747 passenger aeroplane on it. I hurriedly ripped the envelope open and found out that I had won a free flight to Japan!
I zoomed back home and started packing my luggage. The plane was leaving two days later. I stuffed clothes, extra clothes, my passport, air ticket, water bottle, extra water bottle and most importantly, my digital camera, all into a small luggage bag.
The day had finally come. I drove to Changi Airport and reached there just in time. Soon, I was cuddling comfortably into a window in the 747. The next thing I knew, the plane was off for Japan.
Seven hours later, the plane touched down in Japan Airport and I headed for Arrival Hall 2. I sat down on a bench to rest for a while. As I sat down, I noticed a man dressed in black in black behaving suspiciously. He was loitering around an old lady and eyeing her handbag. I started to feel uneasy. Was I to help or just mind my own business? After all, I was in a foreign country.
The man started moving closer and closer to the old lady. He reached out his hand and in a flash, he ran off with the old lady’s handbag. The lady screamed. This sent me darting towards the man. He noticed me and turned around, trying to communicate with me in Japanese. I could not understand him but whatever he was trying to say, I had to catch him as he was a pickpocket.
Just then, the old lady came up to me and literally pulled the handbag off the man’s hand. Furthermore, the man was even laughing! What the…? I thought to myself. Then something caught my eyes. At a corner of the arrival hall were lightings, a television crew and a television camera pointing my way! That explained everything! They were shooting a movie! I let go of the man. I felt extremely embarrassed. I had humiliated myself in front of throngs of people. I was momentarily dumbfounded. Well, what could I say? I do not speak Japanese! I ran off as fast as my legs could carry me.
Back home in Singapore, I sat in front of my computer, typing an email for my best friend to tell him about my embarrassing experience. Wait! Tell him about it and let him laugh at me and worse, spread the ‘news’ around? I shut down the computer. I would rather this stay a secret!

I sauntered around Arrival Hall 2. Occasionally, I looked through the glass panels, giving people the impression that I was waiting for someone. The red leather handbag an elderly lady was holding did not escape my attention. My eyes darted hither and thither, as I looked around. Making sure that the coast was clear, I fastened my pace as I walked towards the elderly lady. As swift as wind, I grabbed her handbag and ran away like a bolt of lightening. I ran and ran and ran, the old lady shouting in Hokkien behind.
Suddenly, I felt someone pounce on me and twisted my arm. Looking back to see who was it, I was shock to see someone I did not know. That guy was not suppose to pounce on me, I do not even know who he is! It was suppose to be some guy who played the good guy. It was in the script. I was suppose to run and the “good guy” would pounce on me.
“Hey! Let go of him. There is a shoot going on here. He is not a snatch thief! Sorry, but we still have a scene to shoot so let go of him now.” said Mike, the assistant, as he ran towards the man and I.
“You mean, there…is a shoot going on here? He is not a snatch thief? But, but…” the man asked, his voice trailing off. His face turned beetroot with embarrassment. By now, a small crowd had formed and the director and actors were running over. People were looking and pointing at him. The director started explaining things to the man while I massaged arm. It was so painful!
After apologizing to the cast, the man left hurriedly and we went back to shoot the scene again. I checked that my clothes were not crumpled and everything was in place when we got back.
“Scene three, take two and action!” shouted the director. Getting the cue, I sauntered into Arrival Hall 2 and looked through the glass panels occasionally…
Finally, after two long hours, we finished all the scenes in the airport. To celebrate, the director treated us to drinks. I had a wonderful day that day.
What an unforgettable day for me!

Sorry for the late work!

Week 3's Compo: A misunderstanding
"Janis, do sleep early. We are leaving tomorrow at seven o'clock sharp,"announced dad.

I had forgotten! We were in China for our two-week
vacation and it was the last day, the last night in China. We were going to pack up and go tomorrow. Thinking of that made me feel reluctant as school was re-opening a week after. How I wished time passed ever so slowly that one minute equals to one day. Tears welled up my eyes.

We packed our belongings in our luggages and set our alarm before we went to bed. We were dog-tired after a hard day and ended up sleeping like logs.

"Ring! Ring!" goes the alarm. Us, except dad, slept right through the alarm. He lept out of bed and took a peep at the alarm when he woke us up.

"Girls! Wake up! Time to get going!" he exclaimed. We, too, peeped at our watches and discovered that it was indeed time for us to pack and go. We checked that we had all our stuffs ready at hand before we checked out of the hotel. Before we left, we had breakfast at the hotel's restaurant to have our breakfast.

We took a cab to the airport and checked in. Meanwhile, mum shopped for souveniers before boarding the plane.

"Singapore Airlines flight Sq806, from China, to Singapore, is ready for boarding now..."announced a voice over a speaker. Instantly, we knew our flight was ready for boarding now and headed towards the boarding gate to board it.

I played computer games while dad and mum read magazines. We also chatted about varieties of stuffs-our holidays, what we do, how we feel, etc. Chatting killed time and we soon discovered that we had arrived.

Out of blue, a feeling of reluctance over-whelmed me. I didn't feel like going to school as I was enrolled in a new class without the accompany by my friends. I thought I would be lonely all year but I still managed to crack a smile, a forced smile.

On our way to the arrival hall, shock engulfed me. A man, wearing sunglasses, grabbed the handbag of an old lady and fled. The old lady was shouting and chasing him, in a wild goose chase. Grabbing his leg, the old lady tried hard to grab her handbag but the man gave her a hard push and she landed on the ground with a loud thump.

"Stop the theif! Stop the theif!" I wailed. I failed to notice that they were just fliming as there are televison crews around.

"Hey guys! Why aren't you stopping the theif?" I shouted to the group of on-lookers. They just shrudded their shoulders. Suddenly, a man burst out to a loud laughter. Then, all others burst out laughing, including my family members, the theif and the old lady. Shock robbed me of speech when I discovered that they were Mediacorp artists. The "theif" explanied to me that they were just filming and we had another heartily laugh.

"Hey Janis, new friend!" shouted a voice, I think it must be two voices. I turned around and saw two of my new classmates, Sally and Joanne. They joked that I am indeed humorous.

"Janis, after we had started school, I will introduce my friends to you, there is Rachel, Mary, Sarah, Esther and so on..." explained Joanne. I was indeed grateful that they would introduce their friends to me.

I had just receive calls from my new friends and was looking forward to meet them. Re-opening of school wasn't so dreadful after all.

The sky was a delightful expanse of azure blue. Magnolia white clouds floated lazily across the vast blue sky. It was the first week of the June holidays. I had agreed to go to the beach with my friends, Hannah, Jamie, Nicholas and Roy.
After finishing my breakfast, I grabbed my backpack, put on my cap and I set off towards the beach in high-spirits. When I reached my destination, I realised that I was twenty minutes late. I apologized sheepishly, my face beetroot red with embarrassment. After that, we walked towards the palm trees, searching for a shady spot to put down our things…
Finally, we managed to find a shady spot under a big palm tree. We laid out a picnic mat on the sand and put our backpacks on top of it. Hannah, Jamie and I decided to go pick seashells by the sandy shore while Nicholas and Roy went swimming in the sea.
Hannah, Jamie and I talked about everything under the sun while we picked up lots of beautiful seashells. We also picked up the all the rubbish on the shore. Out of the blue, there was an ear-piercing cry. The cry sent ripples of fear down my spine and my heart throbbed with fear. Hannah and Jamie had turned as white as sheet, too. What was that for? Is someone in trouble? Frightened our of our wits by that cry, Hannah and I wanted to go back to the palm tree but Jamie, our Sherlock Holmes wannabe, thought otherwise…
Dragging us by our hands, Jamie walked towards the place where the cry had came from. A small crowd had formed by the time we reached there. A middle-aged woman told us that a man was swimming in the deep waters when he had a leg cramp. Unable to swim, he could only struggle in the water and wave his hands about frantically, hoping that someone will save him. Unfortunately, no one had any experience in saving people, so nobody went to help him, afraid that they may endanger their life as well as the man’s life. Just then, a strong-built man walked towards the crowd. He said that he was a lifeguard in a swimming pool. Without delay, he jumped into the sea and, with powerful strokes, swam towards the man. When the man saw the lifeguard swimming towards him, he stretched out his hand and grabbed the lifeguards arm tightly with his remaining strength. Then, the lifeguard swam towards the shore, pulling the man behind him.
Meanwhile, a lady in the crowd had called for the ambulance. Everybody was crossing their fingers, hoping that everything would be alright.
When the lifeguard and man reached the shore, the lifeguard lent a float from someone and rested the man’s head on it.
“Can everybody not crowd around this lad…He needs air…”the lifeguard requested with a Scottish accent.
Everybody took a few steps backwards. A few moments later, the man coughed out a few gulps of water and he started breathing regularly. Suddenly, the wailing of sirens filled the air. The ambulance! Everyone made way for the paramedics as the paramedics ran towards us with a stretcher. The paramedics laid the man down on the stretcher and rushed back to the ambulance. With its sirens blaring, the ambulance set off towards the hospital.
“Great job, dude!” shouted someone from the crowd when the ambulance left, followed by a spontaneous burst of applause. Some people gave the lifeguard a pat on the shoulder while heaping praises on him. The lifeguard beamed with pride.
Hannah, Jamie and I sprinted back to the shady spot, to find Nicholas and Roy resting under the tree. Hannah started telling them about the incident we had just seen…
“He was so heroic! He was pulling that guy and he could still swim like a fish…” Hannah ‘reported’ with hand gestures, the two boys listening attentively. When Hannah finally finished her ‘story’, the five of us had our lunch of sandwiches, specially made by Roy’s mother. It was delicious!
Time flew! Soon, it was time to say good-bye. We bade each other farewell before heading back home. I went home, on cloud nine, thinking about the great day I had with my friends and wondering what my mother had cooked for dinner…

“I can’t wait to see my Aunt, Mom!” I exclaimed as we reached the Singapore Changi Airport. My aunt Mary was coming to Singapore for a two-week holiday and she would be staying at our house. My whole family, Mother, Father, my brother, Time and I were all very excited as we waited for Aunt Mary to arrive.

“Look, Aunt Mary’s flight SQ123 from America has just landed! And… oh, we are supposed to wait at Arrival Hall 2, Belt 17!” Dad announced as we headed for Arrival Hall 2.

As we approached Belt 17 in Arrival Hall 2, my eyes fell upon something ridiculous – a middle-aged Malay snatching away an old woman’s handbag! ‘God, who would do such a thing in the Singapore Airport? What would tourists think of Singapore? A small pathetic piece of land, with snatch thieves all around you? Even in the airport?’ I thought to myself, unsatisfied.

But all my thoughts were squashed to the very back of my mind, as the very next thing I noticed was – incredible.

I saw two cameramen with a director standing not far away from the “crime scene”. A closer look, I then realized that they were from the MediaCorp! Followed closely, a thought hit me hard in the head. So, they were filming! Wow! You do not see filming going on everywhere you go, this was really unbelievable! Infect, it was cool!

Another closer look, I saw that the old lady whose handbag was being snatched away was one of my favourite actresses – Brenda Song! Amazing! I could not believe my own eyes! I actually saw my favourite actress in real life! I pinched myself on the arm to see if I was dreaming. Ouch! No, I was not dreaming. Wow… … …

Just when I started to “regain consciousness”, Mom called out, “Hey, look! It’s Aunt Mary! Hi!!! Over here!” She sounded even more excited than we kids. I began jumping up and down gleefully.

Man, I was so happy I could see Aunt Mary again. She was such a sporty woman and I knew she would bring me go wakeboarding and stuff. I could not wait!

“Oh, kids, you’ve grown so much since I last saw you all! I missed everyone sooo much!” Aunt Mary said as we hugged each other, almost shedding tears of joy.
After then “hugging-session”, Dad urged us to go, as it was already nightfall.

“No! Not until the crew and the actors leave!” I begged, “Pleeeease?” But Dad simply shook his head and said a firm “No.” So, I tore my eyes away from Brenda Song, and the other crewmembers, reluctantly… …
